Caroline Mewe is the founder of Alchemist. On Terschelling, where she grew up, nature is not very far away and people live with an eye for their environment. The light of the island, the colors, the skies and the balance between people and the environment: she has taken it all into account in her way of working. Caroline works in Amsterdam and combines the influences of her youth with the inspiration she gets from the city. Her designs carry light, radiate something fragile and at the same time are cool and chic.
Alchemist makes high-end fashion, beautiful clothing that is made from sustainable fabrics. “Fashion is personal, it shows who you are. Clothing comes very close, of course, you wear it on your skin. Then you don’t want to wear something that has been put together in a bad way? We believe that people are not isolated beings, but are connected to their environment. According to the story, alchemists searched for the formula to make gold. They wanted to turn the ordinary into the most beautiful. By melting loose fabrics together they wanted to make the highest attainable. Alchemist follows this idea and believes that chemistry starts when the different elements come into contact with each other.
